Keystone Area Guide
Year-round adventures in the heart of the Rockies.
❄️ Winter (November – May)
World-class skiing and more.
Keystone Resort Skiing
Three mountains, 3,148 acres of terrain, 128 trails. Night skiing on select runs — the only resort in Summit County to offer it. Terrain parks for all levels.
Beginner Friendly
Keystone is one of the best family resorts in Colorado. Discovery and Schoolmarm runs are perfect for beginners. Ski and ride school programs available for kids and adults.
Tubing & Ice Skating
Keystone Adventure Point has the largest tubing hill in the state. Keystone Lake freezes over for ice skating in a stunning mountain setting.
Cross-Country & Snowshoeing
Miles of groomed Nordic trails through quiet forests. Guided snowshoe tours available through the resort and local outfitters.
Arapahoe Basin
30 minutes away. Known for steep terrain, long season (often open into June), and a laid-back vibe. Great for experienced skiers looking for variety.
Breckenridge
20 minutes south on CO-9. Five peaks, a charming historic Main Street, and more dining options than you can cover in a week.
🌿 Summer & Fall (June – October)
Fewer crowds, endless trails, golden aspens.
Hiking
Hundreds of trails from easy lakeside walks to challenging 14er summits. Popular picks: Sapphire Point, Lily Pad Lake, and the Keystone Gulch trail.
Mountain Biking
Keystone Bike Park offers lift-served downhill trails for all levels. The resort also has cross-country trails winding through alpine meadows.
Gondola Rides
Ride the gondola to the summit for panoramic views of the Continental Divide. Great for families — food and activities at the top.
Keystone Lake
Paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing at the base of the resort. Rentals available on-site. The lake area hosts festivals and concerts all summer.
Fishing
Gold-medal trout fishing on the Blue River. Dillon Reservoir offers lake fishing with mountain backdrops. Guided trips available locally.
Fall Colors
Late September through mid-October brings golden aspens across the high country. Loveland Pass and Boreas Pass are top leaf-peeping drives.

Getting to Keystone
Easier than you think from Denver.
🚗 Driving from Denver
About 90 minutes via I-70 West through the Eisenhower Tunnel. The drive is straightforward year-round — I-70 is well-maintained in winter but can be busy on weekends. Leave early on Fridays and Saturdays. Chains or snow tires required by law (September–May) on I-70.
✈️ Flying In
Fly into Denver International Airport (DEN). From there, rent a car or take a shuttle service like Colorado Mountain Express or Summit Express. Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) in Vail is closer but has fewer flights and higher fares.
🚌 Getting Around Keystone
The Keystone Resort shuttle is free and runs throughout the village — the stop is right outside Silver Mill. It covers River Run Village, the Mountain House base area, and Lakeside Village. The Summit Stage is Summit County's free public bus system with a stop in River Run Village, connecting Keystone to Breckenridge (~30 min), Frisco, Dillon, and Silverthorne (~15 min). Runs daily year-round.
Schedules and routes: Summit Stage
🚍 Bus from Denver
Don't want to drive? Bustang (Colorado DOT's intercity bus) runs from Denver Union Station to Frisco Transfer Center, about 2 hours. From Frisco, transfer to the free Summit Stage to reach Keystone. One-way fares are typically around $15–20. Several private shuttle services (Colorado Mountain Express, Summit Express, Epic Mountain Express) also run direct from Denver International Airport to Keystone.
